Summer is heating up at Point Lonsdale

Since early December, blue skies and hot nights have seen locals and holiday makers enjoy Point Lonsdale, its pristine beaches and relaxed coastal lifestyle.

Over the past few weeks, Point Lonsdale has hosted two popular annual community events – the Rip View Swim Classic, sponsored by The Point, and The Point’s Moonlight Cinema.

On Sunday 30 December, the 31st Rip View Classic saw more than 1100 participants take to the water, swimming 1.4km or 3.8km races along the beautiful coastline from Queenscliff to Point Lonsdale.

Victorian swimming superstar Sam Sheppard won both the mens 1.4km and 3.8km swim, while Rebecca Henderson won both races for the women. Supporters lined the coastline and cheered the swimmers until they reached the finish line.

To ring in the New Year, The Point hosted its fifth annual Moonlight Cinema on Friday 4 January. Point Lonsdale locals and visitors were treated to a free screening of the animated box office hit Big Hero 6.

The open-air cinema attracted more than 150 people, who were treated to a sausage sizzle hosted by the Point Lonsdale Surf Life Saving Club as well as free ice-cream, fairy floss, coffee and drinks.

Stay tuned to The Point website or Facebook page for more information on upcoming community events.
